Simultaneous double squeeze - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A simultaneous double squeeze is a double squeeze the card game contract bridge in which both opponents are squeezed by the same squeeze card.
This is a non-positional squeeze - we can swap the hands of East and West - but it is not an automatic squeeze as was (1).
This is the most comfortable endposition of the three simultaneous double squeeze matrices.

A Non-simultaneous double squeeze, in the card game of bridge, is a double squeeze in which the pressure is not applied to both opponents at the same trick.
When the heart deuce is led to the ace it is West who is squeezed in the pointed suits.
In all double squeezes the second squeeze card is opposed to (that is in the other hand than) the first squeeze card (it could be in the same hand in diagram (2) though).

Squeeze play (bridge) -- Facts, Info, and Encyclopedia article   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
A squeeze forces an opponent to discard a vital card from his hand, thus giving up a trick (or two in some cases).
In order for a squeeze to work, the victim might not hold any "idle" cards, but all his cards must be "busy", covering some sort of menace.
This is a positional squeeze--East holding West's cards would not be squeezed as one of the two menaces (the spade Jack and the heart King) would be discarded before his turn to play.

Double Squeeze   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
A double squeeze is the act of squeezing both opponents.
The essence of the double squeeze is that one opponent is squeezed in two suits like Spades and Hearts, and the second opponent is squeezed also in two suits like Spades and Diamonds, or Hearts and Cubs.
The other requirement is that the second squeeze card is opposite the first squeeze card, and that it accompanies the isolated menace guarded by the opponent who was squeezed first.

Few players fully understand the double squeeze, yet the concept is not that difficult.
Certain basic principles apply to all double squeezes, and a mastery of the subject is well within reach for anyone who absorbs this study.
The last diamond squeezes West out of his spade stopper, as you discard the low heart from dummy; then a heart to the ace squeezes East in the fl suits for 11 tricks.

 Adjoints
It is usually possible to modify a squeeze ending by moving a squeeze card from one hand to the other, while retaining the arrangement of menaces.
This type of transformation can be applied to any squeeze in which there is an automatic discard on the squeeze card: exchange the squeeze card for that automatic discard, and (if necessary) add an extra entry to the hand which originally held the squeeze card.
When a squeeze ending involves the discard of a menace on the play of the squeeze card, a more extensive modification is required, and many positional squeezes do not admit adjoints.

 Inverted Double
It is in some ways the most exacting of the ordinary double squeezes, since the winners must be cashed in a specific order.
Clyde Love called this the RFL squeeze, but I think a better mnemonic is UFO; the correct order is to cash the winners in the single threat guarded under the double threat, then the winners in the free suit, and finally the winners in the single threat guarded over the double threat.
Extra winners in the double threat convert this ending to an easier type of squeeze; an extra winner in the long hand makes it a form of the automatic double squeeze, while an extra winner in the short hand makes it a twin-entry double squeeze.

Although the squeeze play (or simply squeeze) was already discovered and described in whist, its use was best described and perfected in contract bridge.
We will see more of this in simple squeezes.
These plays typically occur late in the game, because they often require the player to have an exact count and location of certain high cards in one or more suits, and must know exactly what cards an opponent will be forced to play.

On the last diamond, deciding East had sluffed a lot more hearts than clubs, declarer pitched his last club, and the double squeeze had been effected.
East was holding one heart and one club after 11 tricks, while West had to hang onto the last spade and so only had one heart also, and so declarer went to his ace of hearts and had the 13th trick with the 8 of hearts.

And then one day I saw the light, which is that you prepare for a double squeeze in the same manner that you prepare for a single squeeze: you rectify the count (or note that it's been rectified), keep communication between your hands, keep threats to the last possible moment, and voila!
But there are two-suit squeezes where you have to pay close attention to the cards, visualize the opposition's cards exquisitely well and perhaps take a risk.
It may be that this applies to the preponderance of double squeezes also, but I'm going to give one I fell into through no merit of my own after the opponents had rectified the count for me.

The biggest part of the increase is because of what's known as "the double cohort" – twice as many students graduating from high school this year.

Since a score of minus 500, down three, non-vulnerable, and doubled, is better than a score of minus 600 if the opponents make their game contract in a Minor suit, and 620 in a Major suit, then the concept proves successful and acceptable.
The concept of the coup is that when the opponents cease the bidding in a partscore contract, a balancing double in introduced by the possible defenders, and the opponents, unwilling to surrender the contract, continue to bid until a game contract has been reached.
