MP Doug Naysmith has praised the decision to relax the laws on cannabis use which means dope smokers will no longer be arrested.
And he said claims that downgrading cannabis from a Class B drug to a Class C would spark a new crime wave were not backed up by experts.
Dr Naysmith said the message that all drugs were "equally dangerous" lacked credibility and risked greater use of the more dangerous drugs.

The gathering was supported by the presence of Parliamentary candidates and members of Labour (Dr Doug Naysmith), Conservative (Julia Manning), LibDems (Stephen Williams and others), Greens (Arjuna Krishna-Das) and Respect (Paulette North).
Candidates from the other parties then offered their own messages of support and commitment, after which there was some discussion, including a challenge from Arjuna to Doug Naysmith, that Labour's support for social and environmental issues like those contained in the manifesto does not translate into action.
Dr Naysmith replied that it was not possible to implement policies like these immediately, although it was a long-term aim.

I have had a response from Dr. Naysmith saying he sees a real problem and he will be pressing for action in the short term.
My response, partly cribbed from posting here (thanks), was: Dear Dr Naysmith, MP Thank you for your response to my email (17 January) ref: Navel War Graves You say there is a real problem with divers diving on War Grave wrecks.
I don't know if you have ever done any diving on a wreck, but wrecks in UK waters are rather ravaged by the sea.

Asked how commonplace such forgery was, Dr Wilmshurst replied: “I suspect it is as common now as it ever was, and I think it was very common”.

Valerie Davey (and Doug Naysmith, Bristol North West) did vote for two amendments which stated that 'the case for military action against Iraq is as yet unproven' (Division 96, 26/2/2003) and that 'the case for war against Iraq has not yet been established' (Division 117, 18/3/2003).
Not one of the city of Bristol's 4 Labour MPs voted against this motion, which in effect authorised British military action against Iraq.
Valerie Davey (Bristol West) and Doug Naysmith (Bristol North West) did NOT vote against - they abstained.
