OTTAWA, Aug. 16 /CNW/ - Doug Reycraft, Mayor of Southwest Middlesex and a Councillor with the County of Middlesex, was acclaimed President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) today at the Association's 2006 annual conference in Ottawa.
"I pass the torch knowing that Doug Reycraft has the support of our municipal membership and will serve the Association effectively," said Roger Anderson, Past President of AMO and Chair of Durham Region.
Doug Reycraft's career spans more that 35 years, during which time he has served as a municipal councilor, Mayor and a Member of Provincial Parliament.

At the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's (AMO) annual conference this week in Ottawa, the new President Doug Reycraft, acknowledged the contributions to AMO of his predecessors Mayor Ann Mulvale and Chairman Roger Anderson and the benefits for municipalities as a result.
Mulvale thanked Reycraft for his recognition and assured him that she would continue to work with him to address the fiscal imbalance.
Reycraft highlighted other key AMO successes under Mulvale and Anderson's leadership including the agreement to share Federal gas tax revenues.

The municipality has worked diligently to improve water distribution and quality, said Southwest Middlesex Mayor Doug Reycraft.
The most recent $800,000 upgrade has helped significantly, Reycraft said, and the complaints he received almost daily before the municipality took over the system have dropped off.
The next phase of the project is to replace the old system's old pipes so everyone in Wardsville can start to drink the water again, he said.

AMO estimates Ontario property taxpayers pay about $23 million a year to collect, process and market glass containers sold by the LCBO that end up in blue boxes.
