Williams, along with Moon, Cunningham, Harris and Marlin Briscoe, started “The Field Generals,” an organization founded by and composed of NFL African American quarterbacks who are dedicated to teaching and preserving the history of the African American quarterback.
Williams was thrown to the wolves, starting the home opener as a rookie quarterback for a seemingly hopeless franchise.
As a rookie, Williams led the NFL in fewest interceptions thrown (8) and guided his team to a much-improved 5-11 record.

The Arizona Outlaws were a professional American football team that played in the United States Football League in the mid 1980s.
The team played in the USFL's 1985 season, and planned to continue play in the league's first fall season in 1986, but the league ceased operations following its pyrrhic victory in an anti-trust lawsuit against the older National Football League.
The team was unable to acquire access to San Diego's Jack Murphy Stadium for its games, and summarily relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma for its inaugural 1984 season as the Oklahoma Outlaws.
