His son, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., also a noted film actor, became prominent in film and television production.

Douglas Fairbanks' hand and foot prints are immortalized in the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre and he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7020 Hollywood Boulevard.
Fairbanks was determined to have Pickford become his wife, but she was still married to actor Owen Moore.
