Marshall, a conscientious objector during Vietnam, tells of his quest to salvage the tarnished professional reputation of his grandfather, a prominent military historian.
But, it's also about how John Douglas Marshall, the grandson and First Lietenant in the US Army, disappoints and hurts his grandfather by filing for and receiving a Concientious Objector status in 1969, instead of being sent to the Vietnam War.
Marshall made, which I will always remember, is a feeling he shared, many years later, with a fellow concientious objector.

Empty stomachs, antacids increase raw oyster risks (07-15-2002)
Marshall led a team that determined the effect of antacids on the survival of Vibrio vulnificus, a bacterial pathogen found naturally in oysters and other shellfish, in the stomach and intestines.
Marshall said he wanted to know whether this would change if that acidic environment became altered by antacids.
Marshall explained this rapid stomach emptying rate would decrease the amount of time V. vulnificus was exposed to stomach acid and allow living bacteria to be delivered to the intestine where they could readily multiply.

S.L.A. Marshall, was one of America's foremost military historians and a staunch defender of U.S. intervention in Vietnam.
When a 1989 American Heritage article sought to discredit the writings of the late General S.L.A. Marshall, a prolific military historian of legendary stature, his grandson (the author of this work) embarked upon a nationwide odyssey to determine the truth of the matter.
His story is ironic, since decades earlier General Marshall had furiously disowned his grandson for obtaining a discharge from the army as a conscientious objector.
