Douglas William Jerrold (January 3, 1803 - June 8, 1857), was an English dramatist and writer.
Jerrold's liberal and radical perspective was portrayed in the magazine under the pseudonym 'Q', which used satire to attack institutions of the day.
Douglas Jerrold is now perhaps better known from his reputation as a brilliant wit in conversation than from his writings.

DOUGLAS WILLIAM JERROLD (1803-1857), English dramatist and man of letters, was born in London on the 3rd of January 1803.
His father, Samuel Jerrold, actor, was at that time lessee of the little theatre of Wilsby near Cranbrook in Kent, but in 1807 he removed to Sheerness.
His eldest Son, William Blanchard Jerrold (1826-1884), English journalist and author, was born in London on the 23rd of December 1826, and abandoning the artistic career for which he was educated, began newspaper work at an early age there.

Douglas Jerrold, the son of the actor, Samuel Jerrold, was born in London in 1803.
Jerrold was particularly horrified by the way officers flogged the men from minor offences and this gave him a life-long hatred of authority.
Jerrold's sympathy for the underdog and his strong criticisms of the Tories, was the main reason why during the 1840s Punch Magazine achieved a reputation as a radical journal.
