  The Hindu : Dowleswaram barrage in need of urgent repairs
The `yawning gap' between the neoprene bearings and the beams of the eastern canal head sluice of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage, popularly known as the Dowleswaram Barrage, which was `accidentally' noticed by senior officials of the Irrigation department, has been causing serious concern.
This was noticed in case of three vents of the head sluice of the eastern canal.
A neoprene bearing made of rubber and steel plates is kept between the pier's concrete structures and the beam to act as cushion.

As the canal being dug with 80 metres width and 10 metres depth to discharge 17,500 cusecs of water, and as the irrigation officials grudgingly conceded under pressure from people, ther will not be any possibility of supplying water through irrigation canals.
Pulichintala is being constructed to stabilize the ayacut of Prakasam barrage by storing the water released from Nagarjuna sagar after generating electric power.

 The Hindu : Godavari rising along its course
Our Rajahmundry Special Correspondent writes: The water level in the Godavari has been steadily rising and at the Dowleswaram Barrage it stood at 12.30 ft on Sunday at 6 pm.
The discharge at the barrage whose gates have been opened was 10.96 lakh cusecs.
The second warning level at the barrage would be hoisted when the water level crosses 13.75 ft.

As the water reached danger level of 1.1 lakh cusecs, 22 flood gates at Gotta Barrage were opened.

It is for the first time in the new millennium that farmers under the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage (SACB), known as Dowleswaram Barrage, are carrying on their farm activity without any apprehension or anxiety about availability of water for the rabi crop.
Paddy is sown on more than 10 lakh acres under the three canals -- eastern, central (catering to the needs of East Godavari) and western (supplying water to ayacut in the West Godavari) during the rabi season.
But officials could manage things and water was ensured to the approved ayacut with great difficulty.
