 | | It died off in about five seconds (as I tried to figure out what I should be doing), and I noticed which circuit it was and ran outside and turned off the appropriate breaker. |
 | | I believe what happened (hard to tell after the fact, obviously) is that one of the wires in this big 4-wire junction came slightly loose, started creating heat due to a poor connection, and started burning the insulation on one of the wires (the insulation is fabric-y and very old). |
 | | My dad wired about half of my parents' house, at least (with his dad having wired the other half), so, if I followed his instructions well (yep), I figure I'm OK there. |
