Sebald, known to his colleagues and friends as “Max”, emerged as an internationally significant writer of fiction in the mid-1990s after some 25 years in which he was known principally among German scholars for his highly original contributions on Austrian writing.
What Max Sebald achieves is the noblest gift of literature, the sharing of destinies, the denial of oblivion, the re-setting of perspectives that brings the most fundamental of all values within view from beyond the vanishing point on the distant horizon and places it at the centre: the dignity of the individual.
Even as he was fêted as the author of one of the two best books in German of the year 2001, however, he maintained that he did not see himself primarily as a writer; he remained first and foremost a teacher and scholar.

 THE DOCTOR MABUSE COLLECTIVE PRESS
Like Metropolis (1926), another classic Lang film, Dr.
Mabuse has all of the requisite traits for this ambitious career path: a brilliant, relentless criminal mind; superhuman powers of mind-reading, hypnotism, and will-bending; the savoir faire to operate smoothly amongst the social elite; the remorseless heart of a cold-blooded multiple murderer; and balls of ice-cold steel.
This led to his return, 11 years later, in the Lang film Das Tagebuch des Dr. Mabuse ( The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, 1933), in which Mabuse takes his game to an even higher level.

The DVD Journal: Dr. Mabuse, The Gambler
Mabuse dishes up a fine paperback potboiler of a story filmed with a sense of style and craft that, like Dr. Mabuse himself, is often hypnotic.
He was so popular that between 1932 and 1969 "Mabuse," in one incarnation or another, returned in eight official sequels, plus other movies between '69 and '89 that are "semi-canonical." The two sequels directed by Lang, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933) and The 1000 Eyes of Dr. Mabuse (1960), are designated genre classics.

 Anime News Network - Review
New yet undeveloped characters are thrown in, main characters like Sonic and Knuckles have different backgrounds than their video game (or even comic/Saturday AM TV version) counterparts, and the evil Eggman (Dr. Robotnik) is nothing but a goofball half the time.
Sonic's arch nemesis, Eggman (Dr. Robotnik), has been banished from the Land of Darkness by an evil Dark Eggman robot.
This isn't necessarily bad on it's own but it would have been more appreciable if the story and character backgrounds followed the cannon of the video games just a little bit more.
