Zakir Hussain (born March 9, 1951), son of tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha, is the probably the most famous classical tabla player in India today.
Zakir has won many awards and recognitions for his contribution to the world of music.
Zakir is a founding member of Bill Laswell's 'World Music Supergroup' Tabla Beat Science and has collaborated with the bassist on many of his other recordings.

ZAKIR HUSSAIN was born at Hyderabad on February 8, 1897, he came of a Pathan family of the upper middle-class, settled at Qaunganj in the District of Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh.
In November 1948, Dr. Zakir Hussain was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University.
Zakir Hussain's nationalism was, like Gandhiji's, a reflection of his allegiance to the highest moral values and to the ideals of a culture which had become the whole of his own self.

The book History of Medieval India (1000 AD to 1707 AD) authored by Dr R R Singh, Principal of the St. Joseph College of Arts and Commerce at Virar (West) mentions that the advent of Islam was a boon for the Arabs, but has been a curse for people outside the Arab world.
It had a modest beginning as a school of the ideas of Gandhiji and Late Dr. Zakir Hussain, and was born in Aligarh.
This was announced by Dr. Ahmad Ali Albashari, Yemani minister for immigration who was announced this in a reception held at Barkas, a colony of Yemeni Arab.

 Failure of a System
In the 52nd year of our freedom it looks rather strange that we are hugging a system which by and large has not only outlived its utility but has become obsolete, if not in its fundamental essentials then at least in its application.
Even the mild-mannered Dr. Zakir Husain, the chief formulator of the system, had to denounce it as a "fraud" on the government and the students.
One was designed to inculcate the spirit of 'swadeshi' and teach the student the love of physical labour by learning local art and crafts, the other was designed to take the benefits of higher education to the countryside.
