 Flash Gordon Movie Review
It just so happens that their plane crashes in the back yard of a crazy scientist, Dr. Hans Zarkov, who was fired from NASA because he was conjuring crazy ideas of earth being attacked from some unknown alien forces.
The problem is the song is more popular than the actual movie, starring Sam Jones, as Flash; Melody Anderson, as Dale Arden; Topol, as Dr. Hans Zarkov; Timothy Dalton, as Prince Baron; and, of course, Max Von Sydow, as Emperor Ming, The Merciless.
Well, to make a long story short, Dr. Zarkov kidnaps Flash and Dale and they enter outer space to stop Emperor Ming's evil plan, save the earth, and bring peace to the universe.

The Menace From Mongo : The Plot
It was later found that Dr Zarkov had apparently died in the final day of the events - his house was demolished by both a meteor storm and by an aircraft which was found to have crashed on it, and the remains burned to the ground.
It seems that Dr Zarkov was right as to the cause of the disasters ten years ago - the Earth actually is under attack from something hidden inside what seems to be a rip in the space-time continuum somewhere beyond the Moon's orbit.
McHenry, who was a student under Zarkov for a while and still idolises him a little will try to get Zarkov to explain why he is destroying the Earth, but before he can answer Zarkov and the others are taken out by troops coming down a corridor from behind them.

 The Cylon Alliance
Melody Anderson was stunning as Dale Arden and Topol's performance as Dr. Hans Zarkov (changed from the former Alexi) was also quite good.
He causes natural disasters and galactic mayhem until Flash Gordon, Quarterback for the New York Jets, Dale Arden, and NASA scientist Dr. Hans Zarkov drop in on his planet and start a revolution.
The story was a close tribute to the original material in which Ming the Merciless opts to destroy Earth out of sheer boredom.

Also Peter Wyngarde as the scheming Klytus has to be given a mention, his standout scene being the real disturbing and freaky mind wipe of Dr Hans Zarkov.
As Flash escapes the burnt out plane, with his new feisty and fit companion Dale, he bumps in to the mad, but brilliant Dr Hans Zarkov.
He’s built a ship that will take him and two others in to the heavens, and find out exactly what it is that’s causing the Moon to drift so perilously close to the Earth.

Frank Shannon is most fondly remembered as the brilliant, bearded Dr. Zarkov in the three Flash Gordon serials produced by Universal between 1936 and 1940.
Though mostly confined to bit roles until his retirement in 1943, Shannon managed to play a few substantial supporting parts, including Captain McTavish in Warner Bros.' Torchy Blaine series.

It's sole distinction seems to be the voice talent of Lexa Doig of Andromeda fame and David Letterman's sidekick, Paul Shaffer, doing the voice of Hans Zarkov!.
In this incarnation Flash and Dale are skateboard-riding teenagers who are kidnapped by Dr. Zarkov (a cowardly character who is more interested in getting the Nobel Prize than saving the Earth).
A DVD of the series was released in movie format made of the first three episodes.
