 HIGH BIAS -- Album Reviews
Escapade's two pieces have a bit more percussion percolating under the surface, but also drift more than drive (though "Transformation 2" threatens to build up a head of steam).
This in turn prejudiced me against any band with songs that were basically folk pop dressed in alternative rock drag.
Her songs are a bit more problematic; though there's nothing here that could be called wretched, there's no stroke of raving genius either.

Filmtracks: Masters of the Universe (Bill Conti)
As bold and ambitious as Conti's music is in all of its thunderous cymbal crashes and timpani rolls, the themes and underlying constructs are stale renditions of Williams' Superman music, and despite the harmonic pleasures that the music delivers, significant deficiencies in inspiration drag the score down.
Only occasionally does Conti utilize varied percussion to represent the world of Eternia and its eclectic characters, and thus, the traditional orchestral sounds are almost too patriotic for the subject matter.
Conti himself was coming off of his remarkable success for The Right Stuff and the Rocky scores.

Lubin overdubbed a band led by Don Ralke on top of the basic track of two vocals, a piano, and percussion, and issued the song on Arwin in the late winter of 1958.
Beginning with the Drag City album, in particular -- which was their first LP of all original material -- their albums showed a level of care and sophistication in the production and the selection of tracks that was unusual, if not extraordinary, for most rock & roll LPs in 1963.
Jan & Dean were the subject of a TV movie in the late '70s and remained much loved (if not sufficiently respected or appreciated) icons of early-'60s rock & roll.

In popular music the cello usually is limited to providing solemn accompaniment on poignant ballads from the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" to Nirvana's "All Apologies," but in Creager's hands it encompasses everything from delicate chamber music to corrosive rock and roll.

They can still provide valuable practice to all percussionists, however, as they exercise different degrees of hand-independence and fine stick control.
The Paradiddle in particular is very versatile, forming the basis of many popular music drum fills.

Though it has been almost 40 years since he began playing highlife and 30 years since he debuted his sounds for large American audiences, King Sunny Ade's Seven Degrees North does not drag.
The most nimbly played track on the CD, "Ariya," begins with a series of synchronized punctuations, smoothly darts forward at an impressive pace, and then -- about half way through -- breaks down into an even more accelerated percussion jam that highlights a talking drum solo.
As King Sunny Ade embodies good humor and unflagging desire to realize a brighter future for Nigeria and its people, the music from his 23 piece band overflows with a buoyant optimism that is indelibly energetic and celebratory.

Spillout into the bar was inevitable, where thankfully, the somewhat muddy sound mix in the main room was given space to dissipate, and so the bass/percussion-heavy rock songs were revived by clearer fuzzy guitar and the dual vocal stylings of Jennifer and Neil.
