Dragan Marsicanin, Serbia's new trade minister and a close associate of Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, told Serbian state television late Thursday that his government will organize war crimes trials at home rather than hand over suspects to the court in The Hague, Netherlands.
Marsicanin's comments, reaffirming comments made earlier by Kostunica himself, were also carried by local media Friday.
Marsicanin said that "there is a possibility to find a solution and achieve what is called two-way cooperation" with the U.N. tribunal.

Belgrade - Head of Kostunica's campaign staff, Dragan Marsicanin, announced yesterday that presidental candidate Vojislav Kostunica will submitt his official candidacy to the Republic Electoral Commission " before starting his pre-elction campaign", adding that Kostunica's will conduct his presidental campaign in the field between 5 nad 9 September, and from 15 to 29 September.
According to Marsicanin, "it takes the best candidate, the best program, and the best organisation to win an election, and the DSS has all three".
Expaining what Kostunica's campaign will be like, Marsicanin said it would be "similar to the one in the year 2000 (federal elections), but shorter" because of Kostunica's international obligations and work on the adoption of the Constitutional Charter of the new state union of Serbia and Montenegro.

DSS has been for a considerable time warning that under changed circumstances in relation to the period when according to the Constitution presidential elections had to be called, it is now only necessary to call early parliamentary elections if we want to go out of the current crisis.
The purpose of presidential elections is only to postpone elections that Serbia needs the most to go out of the crisis', Marsicanin said.
