Dragon Book /n./ The classic text "Compilers: Principles, Techniques and Tools", by Alfred V. Aho, Ravi Sethi, and Jeffrey D. Ullman (Addison-Wesley 1986; ISBN 0-201-10088-6), so called because of the cover design featuring a dragon labeled `complexity of compiler design' and a knight bearing the lance `LALR parser generator' among his other trappings.
This one is more specifically known as the `Red Dragon Book' (1986); an earlier edition, sans Sethi and titled "Principles Of Compiler Design" (Alfred V. Aho and Jeffrey D. Ullman; Addison-Wesley, 1977; ISBN 0-201-00022-9), was the `Green Dragon Book' (1977).
(Also `New Dragon Book', `Old Dragon Book'.) The horsed knight and the Green Dragon were warily eying each other at a distance; now the knight is typing (wearing gauntlets!) at a terminal showing a video-game representation of the Red Dragon's head while the rest of the beast extends back in normal space.

Compilers: Principles, Techniques, and Tools - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is known as the Dragon Book because its cover depicts a knight and a dragon in battle.
Oldtimers call this the "red dragon book" to distinguish it from Aho and Ullman's Principles of Compiler Design (1977), which is the "green dragon book" because the dragon on its cover is green.
A new edition of the book was published in August 2006.

As an art student I found this book to be very helpful, providing lots of fl and white line drawings of dragons for the reader to use as a starting point for thir own creations, and giving examples of how to make your dragon unique and as "life like" as possible.

Three thousand years ago the Dragon led the male mages of the world into entrapping the Dark One, but the cost was high: all male mages, then and thereafter, were driven mad.
Fortunately, in The Dragon Reborn, the climactic ending doesn't make use of convenient storytelling (though other parts of the book do) and Jordan mostly succeeds in writing a book that is only a small part of the series yet works on it's own.
Book 3 finally lives up to the promise of the series - we are now well underway with the adventure of the reborn Dragon.
