The Dragon Quest series is insanely popular in Japan, so popular in fact, their was a law made many years ago that state's that no Dragon Quest game can be released on a week day (so as kids don't skip school to go buy it) That law still stands today.
Dragon Quest VIII has a very classic RPG style to it, like many games in the genre, you travel from town to town, talk to people, gather items, buy weapons and maybe take on a side quest here or their.

If you don't care for the characters than their journey will be less exciting and important because the main purpose of any rpg quest is to go on a journey around the world with the cast of characters to help fight against the evil that threaten the world.
Dragon Quest VIII is an improvement to VII but not by much.
If Dragon Quest is ever to expect major success outside of the Japanese market, major changes needs to be done to the series.

For those who don’t know Dragon Quest 8 is actually the continuation of Dragon Warrior, due to legal mumbo jumbo in the states the name of the dragon quest series where changed to Dragon Warrior.
Luckily Dragon Quest 8 is fairly streamline and quick battle system other wise it would have really slowed down the game.
Dragon Quest 8 as it’s problems but I am going to let it fly and give it 4 stars cuss it did keep me playing through all 100 hours of it.
