 IGN: Dragon Warrior VII Review
Dragon Warrior IV, the last title released in the US, may have been a marvel for the NES, but the years since 1992 have brought vast improvements in graphics, design, and often, playability.
The sheer size and scope of Dragon Warrior VII and the time investment required may, in fact, be a more of a hurdle for many players than its outdated technology.
The fact that Dragon Warrior VII manages to stay interesting through all this time is a feat in itself, but it does so by keeping a steady, but occasionally infuriatingly slow, pace.

Since this was the last Dragon Warrior game released for the NES(and possibly the last Dragon Quest/Warrior game period, unless Enix can get DQ VII out), it's a good thing that its last hurrah was probably the best game in the series.
Some would argue that Dragon Warrior III was better, due to the more varied character development via different classes and the ability to change classes, allowing the player to develop the party to their own standards.
I, however, feel that Dragon Warrior IV takes some of the best elements of III, in the way of combat mechanics, spells, and items, and leaves behind the generic RPG character creation/development and replaces it with a more story-driven game.
