 Cathay seals US$1.05 billion buy-out of Dragonair - Boston.com
Dragonair, which flies to 23 mainland cities including the lucrative Shanghai market, has in turn relied on Cathay to feed it international traffic bound for China.
A Cathay takeover of Dragonair has long been seen as a compelling strategic case, but the complex and interlocking shareholdings between the two, as well as political and regulatory hurdles, have stood in the way of a deal.
"Dragonair's long-term outlook was looking less rosy as more competition was coming into Hong Kong from the Chinese carriers, and they didn't really have the ability to leverage their marginal operations elsewhere in the region," Pinkham said.

And the chiefs at Dragonair are very much aware that operators, airports and exporters next door in the Chinese mainland are eager to acquire more of that airfreight business for themselves instead of watching large and growing lumps of it funnel through Hong Kong.
In the meantime, Dragonair chief executive officer Stanley Hui proudly points to record figures for the last quarter of 2005, with November’s cargo total at 35,529 tonnes and says December’s figure was more than 37,000 tonnes.
But Hui wants one of Dragonair’s own 747-400s to fly to New York early in 2007, and his team is still analysing various combinations and permutations of aircraft and routes.

Despite the obvious downside of Dragonair's web proposition, there is still plenty to be positive about; one should never be lulled into thinking that it's wise to wake a sleeping dragon with a bucket of cold water.

Well Dragonair here is most certainly an exception; she's one of the single most gorgeous Pokemon in existence.
It's kind of a shame that her Physical Attack is the greater of her two offensive stats, since all she can learn in that department are Normal attacks (and the markedly bad Iron Tail that is scarcely worth mentioning).
I figure Dragonair could use a strong Physical Attack, since its Attack is its highest stat by far (okay, so 28 points isn't exactly a lot...but it sure seems like it when the rest of your stats are all within 10 points of one another).

Cathay Pacific Close To Dragonair Takeover (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.isi.jhu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways is close to announcing a takeover of smaller China-focused rival Dragonair in a deal reported to be worth USD$1.3 billion, sources familiar with the matter said.
Cathay was in advanced talks to buy out the stakes in Hong Kong-based Dragonair held by Swire Pacific, CITIC Pacific and China National Aviation Co (CNAC) through a combination of cash and shares, the sources said, confirming a report in Hong Kong's Standard newspaper.
The fact that Cathay is ultimately controlled by UK-based John Swire and Sons, a legacy of Hong Kong's days as a British colony, has been seen as a hindrance in its efforts to win a meaningful share of the booming mainland China market.

Despite this, Dark Dragonair has one of the best Pokémon Powers in the game, and this Pokémon should go into any deck that relies on Evolution cards to win a game, such as the Feraligatr decks and the old Blastoise Water Gun decks.
