DragonFlyBSD 1.0A: A Strong Start | BSDatwork.com - FreeBSD OpenBSD NetBSD Unix News And Configuration Information   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
DragonFlyBSD's FreeBSD origins are quite clear -- the boot loader, boot selection screen, Ports tree, and source tree all share structural and functional similarities to FreeBSD, even if in some cases the code is totally different.
DragonFlyBSD has only one disc which serves both purposes, but there are only seven precompiled packages included on the CD.
With DragonFlyBSD, as mentioned previously, there are at least some major Ports that do not compile, and the system locked up if I tried to compile in SMP support for my Hyper-Threaded machine.

Frank Denis (Jedi/Sector One)'s random thoughts - FreeBSD doesn't like me. Neither does it like its brother.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
Just in case it was a mistake, I rebooted and I reconfigured GAG to boot DragonFlyBSD on the partition DragonFlyBSD had always been on.
The output of the command suggested that it failed because the partition was mounted.
But it never worked for me. And the fact that it fucked up my DragonFlyBSD partition (that I actually used, it was not only for testing) doesn't make me confident about running it on a non-dedicated host.

The DragonFlyBSD team proposes a system that allows for piecemeal upgrades by allowing libraries and binaries to be versioned.

My one critisism is that they appear to be going down the kitchen-sink path, but I think they have realized that themselves and have begun to address those issues.
That is the intent as of the first release (in a little less then a year), and the current development philosophy is to keep things solid on a commit by commit basis.
