Dragonlance is a large series of fantasy books, and a Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting.
The Dragonlance story is set over 300 years after the Cataclysm, an event in which the gods grew angered at man's arrogance and dropped a fiery mountain onto the nation of Istar, rearranging the face of the planet, called Krynn, and appeared to depart from the world.
On 14 July 2006, the casting of the Dragonlance animated movie was announced, including Kiefer Sutherland as voice of Raistlin and Lucy Lawless as voice of Goldmoon.

The dragonlances are sleek and narrow weapons, that can only be forged by a few smiths, which are able to penetrate dragon's scales easily.
The dragonlances are holy weapons of the god Paladine, and as such can only be wielded by good aligned persons (the weapon itself is a favorite weapon for the Knights of Solamnia), and would give a holy shock similar to lightning to any evil aligned being trying to wield it.
Although the dragonlances are heavy, they are lighter than a similar weapon made completely of iron or steel.

Dragonlance: Chronicles #1 is solely an introduction to characters, with perhaps enough action mixed in to get you to come back.
Dragonlance was also the first setting that really tried to make sense of the character class system of D&D. Here, we had red, fl, and white wizards.
Dragonlance was an epic story, and I'm happy to see it finally adapted to comic-book form, which i think always offers a very different experience from prose novels.

A major disappointment in the Dragonlance canon - Huma's life is a great story - do not look to this novel for that story.
