Dragonlord (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dragonlord, sometimes written as DragonLord, is a North American fl metal band.
Dragonlord was formed in the early 2000s as a side project by Eric Peterson and Steve DiGiorgio of Testament and Steve Smyth of Nevermore.
The band is notable for having a unique sound that combines elements of fl metal (screeching vocals, keyboards) with some thrash guitar influences.

Heavy Metal Resource Reviews - Dragonlord & Creozoth
Dragonlord to me is on the upper spectrum of power metal with it sounding similar to hardcore in some ways, but there is also a bit more to their sound.
Vocally, the band is a bit aggressive for my taste, but I found plenty to like musically as you might imagine.
It is interesting how this band has embraced a sound that is a bit more prominent in overseas markets, but for the style they play, they do it quite well.

Along with the growth of DRAGONLORD as a whole, the force and range of Peterson´s vocal approach has greatly widened.
During "Until The End", his clean vocals begin to introduce yet another impressive new asset of the band, and his gutsy singing performance on their version of Thin Lizzy´s "Emerald" is truly impressive and unexpected.
DRAGONLORD has committed to global touring, and Peterson promises a live performance that, along with the expected audio intensity, will be visually engaging as well.

 Morifade
Morifade is another band to join the new wave of dungeons and dragons-metal, but what makes this an interesting acquaintance is that Morifade do this very well and is not just another untalented band jumping on the bandwagon.
The four guys of the band know very well how to write a "catchy" song and already listening to the first two songs ("Dragonlord" and "Cast A Spell") it is clear that all we have here is a brilliant album.
Operating in the same power metal arena as bands like HammerFall and the hugely underrated Nocturnal Rites, Morifade bring to bear a range of other influences such as Stratovarius, Blind Guardian and maybe even touches of Rhapsody, although 'Possession Of Power' is nowhere near as pompously overblown as the Italian giants.

They were a great band, one of the best in Italy in those days and they got really near to sign a big contract with Metal Blade in 1988.
Most of the bands who put out an album do not even play live, they are not as active as they might seem.

The band has a strong fantasy aspect and reflects this in its titles, lyrics and cover artwork.
Several of the band's demos are Domine of 1986, Champion Eternal of 1989 and Bearer Of The Sword in 1991.
The band spent the turn of the century opening for Riot and Anvil.

I’ve heard that this band broke up after recording this debut disc, with some of the band forming Creation Is Crucifixion and others looking elsewhere to vent their anger.
While the band's songwriting is consistently solid, ‘Clouds in the Head’ lacks that precious handful of stand-out tunes capable of elevating this album into the doom/stoner rock pantheon of godly releases, but Hangnail is well on its way to greatness if this album is any indication.
Fans of such bands as Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Skinless will no doubt be drawn into the savage attack of Harakiri but may come out with the same conclusion I did after a few spins: brutal, but forgettable for the most part.

Where Witchery was basically a thrash band, with a Black look, Dragonlord look like a Viking Metal band, playing good ol' heavy metal with a Blackness thrown in the corners.
This is the band’s biggest asset as well as their biggest liability.
Bands like Venom, Bathory and even Possessed were at one point or another referred to as fl metal, and these bands undoubtedly had an influence on Testament.

The result was Dragonlord, a band that combined Peterson's heavy thrash riffery with the ornate, gothic feel of modern fl metal bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, plus nods to fl metal originators like Venom and Mercyful Fate.
Dragonlord was also a band that remained a side project for Peterson, not a primary concern ahead of his continued work with Testament.
The debut Dragonlord album, Rapture, was released in summer 2001 by Spitfire, the same label that carried Testament.

The band was voted among the best Italian bands and best newcomers in all the Italian magazines, and got the third place as new band on the Greek Metal Hammer readers' poll (just after Hammerfall and Rhapsody).
Songs like "Dragonlord (The Grand Master Of The Mightiest Beasts)", "Last Of The Dragonlord (Lord Elric's Imperial March)" and the 13-minutes-long "Battle For The Great Silver Sword (A Suite in VII Parts)" are the most EPIC tracks ever recorded by the band.

 Ink 19 :: Grave Digger
One of the foremost bands in Manowar's wake who has slogged through the decades unfettered by the evolution and modernism around them is Germany's Grave Digger.
So, on Dragonlord, the band's debut album, we find Domine going through the motions of Helloween worship, and going through them quite well, kinda like someone one-upping you in something as mundane as aerobics - frustrating, but at the end of the day, it's still aerobics, still mundanity.
That's not to say Domine should be the target of anyone's invectives more so than any of their equally licentious contemporaries (who mostly freeload said band's chops, riffs, identity, etc.), but when you factor in the overt medieval imagery, the transparency becomes as clear as brand-new glass.

I think they were one of the first bands in LA to use acoustic guitars, groove rhythms and vocals that seemed a little clearer than the rest of the old school Los Angeles Death Metal scene.
Now we landed the spot with Dragonlord which has members of Testament, Control Denied, Death and Sadus, all of which are bands in which we all admire and aspire to be like, so, we are very honored to get the spots we have been getting.
I think the reason we have always been a good live band is because we try and connect with the audience and show them the same appreciation that they show us.

Vocal Martyr » Blog Archive » Dragonlord’s Black Wings of Destiny
but by dismissing Dragonlord and their second release, Black Wings of Destiny, you’d be writing off probably the most explosive fl metal band to come out of the states in quite some time, if not ever.
The fusion of traditional and modern fl metal throughout may turn a few off of Dragonlord’s sound, but for any fan of the genre as a whole, Dragonlord could easily become one of your favorites with only two albums to back them up.
The final two tracks on the album, which don’t fit at all with the rest of the album musically, but are quite the treat to any fan of old school metal, are a pleasant surprise and a great fit for a CD that is still techincally a side project for its principal members.

He proved to be the spark that the band needed to light a fire under this unique new project.
With their line-up in place, they set out to create music that was different from the bands who set the 'mold' that was set into place that shaped all of the San Francisco metal bands - but which stayed true to its old skool attitude, and heaviness.
As a longtime friend, and former band mate of vocalist, IainDeaderick - Mark proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle that the band needed to make their band that more crushing, and their sound that more monstrous.

The words "story telling" are bandied about quite a bit when it comes to metal music, but Dragonlord seems to really deliver, telling tales that could fill volumes if somebody wanted to add more verbal flesh to turn songs into books.
As is, however, Dragonlord - like Forgotten Suns (whom I also recently reviewed) - paints an awesome musical picture.

 DragonLord Bio/Members
Forged from the mind of founding Testament guitarist Eric Peterson, DRAGONLORD is an inspired concept that fully explores the realm of dark extremity.
With flened keyboards, blasting percussion and a razor-edged dual guitar attack, the album's haunting aggression and precision attack stem from ideas that have steadily grown in his mind over the years.
From that point onward, the band continued to wrap majestic sounds around Peterson's lyrical concepts.

The rest of the album is an aural assault of evil, symphonic fl metal mixed with thrash, which makes a lot of since, seeing how this band is comprised mostly of former/current Testament members (this band was started as Eric Peterson's side project).
In fact, all of Dragonlord (with the exception of Lyle Livingston) had played in Testament previously.
Steve Smyth is perfect for the band as a lead guitarist; his leadwork is always melodically and technically brilliant.

So, you can essentially call the band a sort of supergroup, playing in a different style than their main bands.
