		During the ensuing winter, Seaman 2d Class Weber successfully completed elimination flight training at the Naval Reserve Aviation Base, Kansas City, Kansas; and, on 27 July 1939, he was appointed an aviation cadet in the Naval Reserve.
		On 13 June, Weber departed Ulithi to escort California (BB-34) to Okinawa where the battleship was needed to render gunfire support to American forces subduing the defenders on the southern portion of the island.
		Serving as antisubmarine and mine escort for that unit, she patrolled the waters around Okinawa until 1 July, protecting communications and supply lines.

	HMS Drake sunk in Rathlin Bay
		The U-Boat located HH24 in the early morning, found the Drake in her sight and fired one of her compliment of four torpedoes, the resulting explosion killed 19 seamen though the cruiser remained afloat.
		The crippled Drake under the command of Captain S. Radcliffe was escorted into Church Bay by H.M.S. Martin and other auxiliary ships where she was anchored.
		The Drake did not lie undisturbed for on the 4th November 1962, the 595 ton 'Ella Hewitt' skippered by William Gregson fouled the wreck while leaving Church Bay and within eighteen hours had sunk adjacent to her.

		Drake (AM-359)-an Admirable-class minesweeper-was laid down on 24 November 1943 at Portland, Oreg., by the Willamette Iron & Steel Corp. and launched on 12 August 1944.
