Dramatic Interpretation (often shortened to "Dramatic Interp" or just "DI") is an event in National Forensics League (and NFL-related) high school forensics compeitions.
As the name suggests, the cuttings are invariably from non-comedic (e.g., dramatic) works.
Some performers select monologues, others may adopt the roles of several characters, changing their tone of voice, manner of speaking, and bodily position to indicate a change in character.

Drama interpretation is one of the most popular individual events, routinely attracting a wide variety of students and an equally diverse set of plays.
Drama interpretation is not "acting," and students are reminded to use gestures rather than acting out scenes and to avoid singing or the use of props (each of which is against AFA rules).
