Topic: Drawn expression of mediums

Automatic drawing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Automatic drawing (distinguished from drawn expression of mediums) was developed by the surrealists, as a means of expressing the subconscious.
Hence the drawing produced may be attributed in part to the subconscious and may reveal something of the psyche, which would otherwise be repressed.
Examples of automatic drawing were produced by mediums and practitioners of the psychic arts.

Spirit Mediumship   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
While some mediums gain impressions from the spirit world in a fully conscious state, others place themselves into a trance, which is often accompanied by manifestations that appear to defy known physical laws, such as moving objects without touching them, levitating the mediums' own body, and materializing spirit forms of the deceased.
On certain occasions, mediums may invite one or more sitters to place their own hands on the planchette so that they may feel the spiritual force controlling its movements and determine that the medium is not responsible for its actions.
Mediums usually make it quite clear to neophyte sitters that the best manner in which to secure a demonstration of genuine spiritistic phenomena is to assure the medium of one's good will.

Mediums and Channelers   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Some psychical researchers maintain that the principal difference between a psychic-sensitive and a trance medium is that the psychic attributes his or her talents to some manifestations of extrasensory ability, such as clairvoyance, precognition, or telepathy, whereas the medium credits his or her abilities to the interaction with spirits.
Some mediums would probably concede that the action of the subjective mind is not entirely eliminated during trance and the arrival of the spirit control, but from their viewpoint their subconscious is taken over by the guide.
The medium's defenders proclaim that the greatest myth in the history of psychical research is that Houdini caught Margery cheating and exposed her.

Gray Wolf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wolves are susceptible to the same infections that affect domestic dogs, such as mange, heartworm, rabies and canine distemper, and such diseases can become epidemic, drastically reducing the wolf population in an area.
Wolves can visually communicate an impressive variety of expressions and moods that range from subtler signals, such as a slight shift in weight, to the more obvious ones, like rolling on the back as a sign of complete submission.
Sometimes active submission is accompanied by muzzle licking, or the rapid thrusting out of the tongue and lowering of the hindquarters.

How To Judge A Picture - Oils, Watercolors, Pastels
Its durability beyond other mediums is not of so much importance in artists' eyes as its freshness, its brightness, its facility for expressing by brush-work shades of meaning, phases of character, types of individuality, and its facility of retaining colors intact and without mingling (except by reflection) with other colors.
It is a very beautiful medium, and because it is perhaps not so serious as oil it should not for that reason be set down as trivial or worthless any more than Italian or French music should be utterly cast out because it is not like the music of the Germans.
As a medium for making sketches and catching vanishing effects of color pastel is much used, and of late years it has been put to good service in portraiture and genre, especially by our American artists—Messrs.

 Possession and Trance in Chuuk
Second, in former times the medium in spirit possession was, ideally at least, someone from within the inner family group who showed a sensitivity to the movements of the spirits.
The chief requirement for mediums, in the words of a German doctor who observed possession incidents during the first decade of this century, was that they "have a nervous sensibility, increased by continuous auto-suggestion, so that they can easily go into a hypnotic state" (Girschner, 1912-1913, p.
The medium as a distinct person and recognized position has disappeared, but the behavior continues, as does some recognition of that behavior as "possession." Formerly, spirit possession was the mark of a distinct person, the waanaanu, or medium; today it is a type of behavior, an illness.

Newspaper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the past newspapers have often been owned by so-called press barons, and were used either as a rich man's toy, or a political tool.
Whistle-blowers, and those who 'leak' stories of corruption in political circles often choose to inform newspapers before other mediums of communication, relying on the perceived willingness of newspaper editors to expose the secrets and lies of those who would rather cover them.
Smaller and easier to hold than broadsheets, but presenting serious journalism rather than traditional tabloid fodder, they appear to have drawn some younger readers who are otherwise abandoning newspapers.

Born in New York in 1965, Sturm belongs to the second generation of underground cartoonists, who inherited the self-sufficient ethos of the pioneers while doing more thoughtful work than the early underground comics, many of which were just extended sex-and-drugs joke books.
Drawn with woodcut starkness, Sturm's graphic novels and shorter works offer an odd-angled view of American history.
Talking to Thalheimer, it's clear that, for all its novelty, part of the appeal of Sturm's school is that it will recreate something that had been lost in recent years: the community of mentors and apprentices that has allowed the cartooning craft to survive from one generation to the next.

The medium sat at that part of the table which was nearest to the fire, consequently his back was to the light.

Taoism is one of several traditions that have drawn upon correlative cosmology to formulate its views and to frame its techniques or practices.
In Taoism, correlative cosmology serves not only to explicate the functioning of the cosmos, but also to illustrate the notion that single entities and phenomena ultimately originate from the Dao, and that the different forms in the world of multiplicity are governed by the One, the principle of the unity of the cosmos.
In addition, a multitude of deities, most of whom are the expression of local cults, contribute to form a pantheon with indefinite boundaries that takes different forms according to place and time.
