Air (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although Air's music is often referred to as electronica, their form of electronic music really owes more to the synthesizer sounds of the 1970s such as Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis and Francis Lai.
Before founding Air, JB and Nicolas played together in the band Orange, with others such as Alex Gopher, Xavier Jamaux and Etienne de Crécy – names that have recently reappeared in connection with Air's remixes.
It is expected to be released sometime in 2007, and is apparently a new direction for the band.

The seven member band swamped the stage and, in some instances, shocked the audience with their unusual attire which included keyboardist Hoppy Kamiyama whole male fingers caressed the keys while he wore a dress.
Japanese independent rock is often oversimplified as a mere reinterpretation of American forms, but Kamiyama, a studious rock fan, noted some exceptions, including Hanatarashi, a particularly brutal Japanese combo heavily influenced the grindcore and hardcore movements in England and America.

Stratovarius was one of the first melodic (speed/power) metal bands that I listened to and they literally blew me away with their fast rhythms, catchy melodies and maniacal "guitar vs keyboard duel" solos.
The main attraction in this band for me was Jens Johannsen, one of the most talented (and insane) keyboardists that I have ever seen with his ability to fuse classical sounding keyboard pieces into the hard and fast metal riffs and solos in Strato's music.
Another band introduced to me by Ed, I dare say that Siam Shade is one of the best Jrock bands to have ever been formed.

Told through a combination of interviews with the band, their family and friends, and various music industry personalities, and interspersed with performance footage, this lovingly detailed documentary pleads the case for Half Japanese as the best unsung rock band ever, so defiantly indie that they don’t even care that you’ve probably never heard of them.
Eccentric brothers Jad and David Fair began Half Japanese as teenagers, recording songs from their Maryland bedroom, self-releasing limited edition records and cassettes, and all along, basing their music on just one tenet: Forget about learning chords; just play music.
Hunt down this hard-to-find video or DVD when you’re feeling utterly jaded about the money-grubbing world around you, and get reassurance that there are still a few token souls out there doing what they do not for some end result of fame or money, but for the pure and noble joy of the process.
