DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., riding investor enthusiasm for computer-generated animation, saw its shares trade sharply higher Thursday in the first day of trading for the company that created the blockbuster "Shrek" film franchise.
DreamWorks Animation, which also counts Microsoft Corp. and its co-founder Paul Allen as investors, is a spin off of movie studio DreamWorks SKG, founded by Hollywood power brokers Geffen, Katzenberg and Spielberg.
The DreamWorks Animation IPO is the biggest from Hollywood since MGM went public seven years ago and raised $180 million.

For the three months ended March 31, DreamWorks reported a net loss of $25.9 million, with operating revenue of $40.8 million, compared with a net loss of $11.9 million, with revenue of $48.2 million, in last year's comparable period.
