Superman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As portrayed in Action Comics #1, Superman was born on the planet Krypton and rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father moments before the planet's destruction.
After the establishment of DC Comics' Multiverse in the 1960s, it is established retroactively that the Golden Age version of Superman lives on the parallel world of Earth-Two and is named Kal-L, while his Silver Age counterpart lives on Earth-One and is named Kal-El.
Other post-Crisis comics show that the relationship between the two is a trusting one, despite the unease each feels due to the differences in their methods: Superman relies on trust and strength to achieve his goals in cooperation with the law, while Batman relies on violence and fear and operates outside the law.

Writing The Dreaming is a difficult balancing act, because you have to meet the very high and very specific expectations of the readers coming to it from The Sandman, and you have to allow it to become its own comic.
I do know it's a very difficult time for comics, and it would have been great to be involved in the boom just a few years back, when there was so much less tension and anxiety, and so a lot more freedom for experimentation.
Dream is a beautiful example of the Fisher King, and The Dreaming of a wasteland that has to be healed by the death and rebirth of its Lord.

The Sandman connection is strengthened considerably the use of historical literary figures such as Edgar Allan Poe, and the inclusion of Eve, Jessamy and references to Morpheus in his capacity as the lord of stories.
Leialoha also conveys successfully the ferocity of Catterina's battle with the rats and the effort it costs her, while also making good use of full-page panels to emphasise moments of surprise and to provice an almost cinematic feel of closure to the story on its last page.
On the other hand the art did fall down a little in the subterranean scenes - I was hoping the evil beneath the cemetery would be something a little more Lovecraftian than a giant green worm, and the atmosphere of scenes underground could have benefited from being darker and more atmospheric.

The biggest annoyance for me was that where Gaiman would hint at a million literary, mythological and pop culture references to be discovered like treasures on the third or fourth reading in his comics, with Kiernan the ones that aren't immediately obvious (which are most of them) are nearly always explained within the story.
