Torch Lake Township is a civil township of Houghton County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
Dreamland is an unincorporated community on the east side of Torch Bay at 47°05′52″N, 88°24′47″W.
Located in the Copper Country of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it is a small settlement with few if any businesses, which were generally inhabited by miners, people with mining-related jobs such as running the smelters, and their families.

The Dreamland Rendezvous has been an annual bike show swap meet for the past nine years and continues to gain great popularity in northern Michigan amongst bike riders and enthusiasts of all ages and is also a great weekend family event.
The event contributes raised funds for Bay Cliff Health Camp which is supported by various groups in the state of Michigan to help disabled children attend in the summer with specialized staff aiding them to develop certain needed skills.
The Dreamland Rendezvous has been one of these helping groups over the past eight years and continues with it's tradition yearly.

In the Oct. 29, 1920, issue of the school paper, however, as Tulane prepared for its first intersectional football game at the University of Michigan, Sparling wrote a convoluted poem entitled "The Rolling Green Wave," which was displayed at the top and in the center of the front page.
In the same issue of the Hullabaloo, it was written that the "great green wave rolled toward Michigan." But after a long train ride to Ann Arbor, Tulane lost 21-0.
In less than a month the name was hatched and attached, although "Greenbacks" was still used extensively, and even the "Olive and Blue" nickname was continued to a lesser extent.

Peggy Smith Venturi was born in Detroit Michigan and as a teenager in the 1950's was trained at the old Art School of the Society of Arts and Crafts.
In the late 50's two of her paintings "Lost Child" and "The Crowd" both won a purchase prizes in contests held by the Detroit Institute of Arts, and both paintings are in the permanent collection of the DIA.
The paintings in this Dreamland exhibition, which were created in the late 1950's and early 1960's when Peggy was in her twenties, were discovered in storage in the basement of the Venturi home when the house was recently sold.

Today, there is very little evidence that there was a town at the junction of State Road and U.S. There is indeed a summit, which currently is etched with ORV trails, and the old railroad bed is also a trail.
The book, Michigan Ghosts Towns by R. Dodge, Glendon Publishing, Las Vegas NV, 1971, has an entry about Summitville: In 1877 a village in Chase Township on the F. and P. Railroad, 9 miles west of Reed City.

We used to walk to Dreamland Hotel and follow a stream behind the motel.
Also Dreamland Hotel has some wonderful food and a "Escanaba in da Moonlight" atmosphere.
I saw some pics of the Dreamland a year or so ago and it hasen't changed at all in 30 years.
