The dedication is contained in an architectural frame, surrounded by pastoral scenes, boats, etc. The coats of arms include that of Drechterland itself and those of the dike and water authorities.
The dike and water authorities of Drechterland commissioned Govert Oostwoudt to produce a map of Drechterland, but he died on 1 September 1723, when the map was at the engraver's.
After a brief career as a sailor, Govert Oostwoudt (1671-1723) became a schoolmaster in the village of Hem (in Drechterland), and is described as a mathematician on the 1723 map.

Drechterland (No. 2793), a cargo ship, was built in 1903 by Sir J. Laing and Sons, Ltd., Deptford Yards, Sunderland, England, for the Dutch firm of Koninkl Hollandsche Lloyd.
She was interned at Galveston, Tex., by Presidential order after the United States entered World War I; transferred to the Navy from the Shipping Board 20 March 1918; outfitted at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co., Newport News, Va.; and commissioned 29 March 1918, Lieutenant Commander R. Vose, USNRF, in command.
Serving with the Naval Overseas Transportation Service, Drechterland made five voyages carrying Army supplies from east coast ports to Europe between 23 May 1918 and her arrival at Rotterdam, Holland, 5 July 1919.

The name Drechterland was originally the name of the "polderschap" (polder-board) Drechtingher ambacht of Drechterland.

For about 300 years, Westfriesland operated as an autonomous area as the Westfrisians did not want to be subjected to Hollandic authorities.
