Dres (Polish subculture)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
The term dres is used in Poland (as of 2005) to describe a stereotype of (typically) young men, generally from smaller towns and villages, generally unemployed due to the 20% unemployment rate (as of 2005).
As of 2005, homophobia is still quite strong in Poland, both as official policy of the Catholic Church and among some politicians, such as Lech Kaczyński, who, as mayor of Warsaw, banned the gay rights Equality Parade in both 2004 and 2005.
However, whether or not a violent form of homophobia is genuinely associated with dres as a social group is or whether it is just a false stereotype is unclear.

The costs of living, environment and other cicrumstances made young people create various subcultures, that is groups of people who have the same opinions about certain things, the same hobbies and style.
Those people descend from poor families where often one of the parents is an alcoholic, or from richer ones where parents aren’t educated at all and they earn money the easy, not always fair way.
The professional level of Polish groups is improving all the time, they are recording CDs and playing many concerts where you can see crowds of people.
