I want to hear Dresden live again but if they come with Strauss I hope that Blomstedt and Haitink are at the helm, I doubt they would block or do anything to interfere with Dresden's sound in Heldenleben for example the way Sinopoli did when I heard him live.
Karajan appeared with the Dresden Staatskapelle at the Salzburg Festival in 1965, 1972 and 1976.
The Staatskapelle will not fill a position until they are completely satisfied that a new player fits in with their manner of playing and phrasing.

The reeds used by the Dresden oboists appear similar to the French style to an American observer, but this is an oversimplification and might be considered an insult by the Germans.
The Dresden players could not believe the A-bar was 440 because it was relatively close to their pitch.

Gottfried Semper's beautiful theater remained a skeletal shell for almost 40 years after the destruction of Dresden in 1945 and the opera company performed in the much smaller Schauspielhaus [Playhouse], whose improvised pit precluded performances of the bigger Wagner and Strauss operas.
The enthusiasm of Dresden's Wagnerites was understandable, as almost sixty years had passed — three generations of opera-lovers — since Wagner's masterpiece was last seen in this theater.
A magical effect, but the set proved less so for the Nibelheim scene and the gods' entrance to Valhalla, where the seating became an incumbrance to the stage actors (with the exception of Hartmut Welker's physically agile and vocally energetic Alberich).

The performances are quite similar, except that the Dresden Staatskapelle plays with a warmth and tonal lustre that is superior to the Berlin and Munich orchestras featured in the DGG set.

I suppose the good news here is that this Dresden set is quite a bit better than the later Capriccio CD readings.
It is tidier and more steady than Bruno Walter's - the Dresden is certainly a far more distinguished ensemble than Walter's Columbia Symphony.
