The badge may be revoked if the recipient is removed from the position of a drill sergeant for cause, regardless of the amount of time the individual has served in the position in a satisfactory manner.
Authority to revoke the badge is delegated to commanders of U.S. Army training centers and commandants of drill sergeant schools.
The subdued embroidered badge may only be worn on utility uniforms and field jackets with the badge centered on the right breast pocket between the bottom of the pocket flap and the bottom of the pocket or in a similar location on uniforms without pockets.

The badge is presented to any service member who has completed the Drill Sergeant Course at the U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School, and has been assigned as an active duty drill sergeant at a U.S. Army training command.
The badge may be authorized for permanent wear, upon application of a service member to the Commandant of the Drill Sergeant School, and in such cases the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge may be worn for the duration of a military member’s career.
Any drill sergeant who is relieved of duties for cause must surrender the badge and is not eligible for any further display of the decoration.
