The Drill Sergeant Identification Badge is worn on the lower right uniform pocket and is considered a temporary decoration which is surrendered upon completion of duty as a drill sergeant.
Any drill sergeant who is relieved of duties for cause must surrender the badge and is not eligible for any further display of the decoration.

Now, everywhere you look there's a Hollywood Drill Sergeant who hasn't taught the first basic skill to a soldier since the day he or she graduated school and put on that cool hat.
We don't need Drill Sergeants with combat support and service support trainees who spend most of their time in classrooms and we certainly don't need them styling around the reception station.

If the military is serious about ethics and serious that the NCO is indispensable to the mission and combat effectiveness, it is clear that there is no alternative but to bring the ethical training of the NCO's (and all enlisted soldiers) up to a parity with the officer corps commensurate with command responsibility and rank.
I believe that any approach that is to succeed must address the concerns of both theoretical and practical ethics and be consistent with the practical and cultural needs and constraints of the military and the soldiers who are to be served by these changes.

The rest of the Drills from my unit are out on the trail right now but since the airlines lost my luggage which contained my uniforms, I can't be around the troops, therefore I'm stuck in the barracks.
Since I'm the late Drill tonight I get to be late Drill in the morning which means I won't have to be in here until 5:30 am which would normally be great, but I have no idea how late this thing is going to run now.
I guess most of these Drill Sergeants aren't any higher rank than me, and none are over one rank higher than me. I'm older than all of them as well so it's just that school they've completed that makes them different.
