Topic: Drive on the right

Driving on the left or right - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Driving on the left avoids the difficult combination of steering with the left hand and changing gear with the right, and at the same time viewing the oncoming traffic with the left eye.
It drives on the left, but 90% (4357km or 2707 miles) of its borders are with countries that drive on the right, with only Malaysia driving on the left since Burma (now Myanmar) changed from driving on the left to driving on the right in 1970.
In Italy the practice of traffic driving on the right first began in the late 1890s, but it was not until the mid 1920s that it became standard throughout the country.

Tape drive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A tape drive, also known as a streamer, is a data storage device that reads and writes data stored on a magnetic tape or a punched tape.
Tape drive storage is usually referred to with the assumption of 2:1 So a tape drive might be know as 80/160, this means that the standard storage capacity is 80 whilst the compressed storage capacity can be up to 160.
In the 1980s some forms of tape drives were used as inexpensive alternatives to disk drives, examples include the ZX Microdrive and Rotronics Wafadrive.

Driving On the Right - Weaver
Driving right is no more rational than driving left, but it is more ‘revolutionary.’ That would have appealed to Napoleon — and since his armies went everywhere from Russia to Spain, almost all of mainland Europe ended up driving on the right.
And the Middle East drives right because the Ottoman empire, which used to rule most of the region, was heavily under the influence of the right-driving French and Germans at the critical time when its army laid down formal traffic rules in the latter half of the 19th century.
Korea now drives right, but only because it passed directly from Japanese colonial rule to American (and Russian) influence at the end of the Second World War.

Which side of the road do they drive on?
Driving on the left was a standing joke during the planning stage, but it made no sense as virtually all of the vehicles on site were left-hand drive.
In the matter of steering with the control on the right the driver is farthest away from the vehicle he is passing, going in opposite direction; with it on the left side he is able to see even the wheels of the other car and easily avoids danger.
Metros run on the right except for the Nizhniy Novgorod metro line 2, which runs on the left for easier interchanges with line 1; apparently this is a temporary measure and when the lines are extended past their interchange at Moskovskaya station, they will both revert to right-hand running (Andrey Chernyakhovsky).

VWvortex Forums: Why does the US drive on the right, and other countries on the left?
The problem was that all their neighbours already drove on the right side and since there are a lot of small roads without border guards leading into Norway and Finland, one had to remember in which country one was.
Conversely, driving on the left-hand side of the road usually implies that the driver's seat is on the right-hand side of the car.
Cars driven on the right side of the road usually have headlights which are aimed slightly to the right when not on full beam, and vice-versa with cars intended to be driven on the left.

The Right of the Citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, by horse drawn carriage, wagon, or automobile, is not a mere privilege which may be permitted or prohibited at will, but the common Right which he has under his Right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

My brother and I were discussing the other day why in the United States we drive on the right side of the road and not on the left where we originated.
We wondered if perhaps we choose to drive on the opposite side of the road and sit on the opposite side of our cars in retaliation from breaking away from England.
In England, wagons had a driver's seat, and the driver sat on the right, that way his right hand was free to whip the horses, if needed.

It depends on your taste, your engine, the space available on your vehicle and how you use that vehicle, too.
After all, a muffler can be used to tune your engine’s powerband, so that it makes more peak power (a good goal if you’re drag racing or hitting the Autobahn) or more midrange torque (preferable if you’re road racing or driving on the street).

And the switch to driving on the right is almost always associated with, or blamed on, Hitler.
As the change took place, boy scouts stood by roads and streets with signs saying "jezdime pravo", "we drive on the right", and billboards bearing the same slogan appeared around the country.

Most Americans just won't drive in the UK because of the perceived confusion of driving on the left.
When you learn to drive, you unconsciously learn to center your car in the traffic lane using visual clues involving the relative position of your eyes and the lane markings.
When you shift to a right-hand driver's seat, you'll have an unconscious tendency to drive as much as three feet farther to the left to produce the same visual cues.

PCQuest : Tape Backup Shootout : Choosing the Right tape drive
Some tape drives let you boot the system from the tape itself, after which the entire system is restored back to the disk from the tape.
Some important issues here include choosing the right backup drive and media, and whether to go for feature rich yet expensive commercial software, or the default one that ships with your operating system.
Daily maintenance chores like tape drive head cleaning, rotation and replacement of tape media should be strictly followed as defined in the policy to make backup and recovery an easy task.
