X-Entertainment - Droids Cartoon Episode Review
Droids was certainly no worse than most children's programming at the time, but it lacked anything truly special to hold kid's attention.
The Droids are lost on some remote planet, jettisoned from their previous, evil master's space shuttle during a little law trouble with spice smuggling.
Droids inspired their own line of toys with all new stupid cartoony figures, but they also repacked the old Fett figure and sold him off, too.

Cartoons we thought of as The Best Ever back then might really embarrass us today to even be in the same room with.
Making a cartoon out of a family-friendly movie is one thing, but creating an animated series based on a dark, horror-themed film about death and the afterlife is quite another.
Droids, only marginally better because they weren't on Endor and confined to stories about teddy bears, took the "gay robots of Star Wars" (to quote The Simpsons) — R2-D2 and C3PO — across the galaxy in events far prior to the original trilogy.

Overall the Ewoks and the Droids cartoons were fairly well-crafted compared to other Saturday Morning cartoons of the period.
Droids was cancelled after its first season, and Ewoks was only renewed when it agreed to a full lobotomy.
As with all Lucas products, the cartoons on the DVD have been 'updated.' The wacky Taj Mahal opening song is now gone, as are many of the ambient flute sounds/music cues heard throughout the series (which were kinda annoying in the original show as a result of overuse).

Cartoon Network and Lucasfilm are in negotiations on an undisclosed project by Brian Hiatt
Internet reports have suggested that the project in question is a ''Star Wars'' cartoon series, possibly titled ''The Clone Wars,'' but Laurie Goldberg, a Cartoon Network senior vice president for publicity, declined to offer details on the negotiations.
Citing anonymous sources, the sites suggest that Lucasfilm is planning a cartoon series that would chronicle the ''Clone Wars'' period between ''Star Wars: Episode II -- Attack of the Clones'' and the as-yet-unnamed third ''Star Wars'' prequel, due in theaters in 2005.

The concept was that of the early adventures of the droids, seeing that they are the property of Luke Skywalker and in service to the New Republic at the end of the Saga.
I believe that the Droids cartoon made use of this theme back in the day, though obviously not too far back in history thanks to the appearance of bounty hunter Boba Fett in one episode.
