Junior cycle pupils from Dromahair are eligible for free transport to another centre only in accordance with the ordinary rules of school transport which stipulate, inter alia, that they may have free transport only from the nearest pick-up point within the catchment area of the centre attended.
The children in the Dromahair area who attend Ballisodare post-primary centre together with the pupils in the area who attend Sligo post-primary centre avail of a public scheduled service to Ballisodare via Sligo in the mornings.
The standard of service, from the point of view of travelling and waiting time for the Dromahair pupils who are eligible for free school transport and who have opted to attend Ballisodare post-primary centre is in accordance with the general standards laid down for the post-primary school transport scheme.

En-route to Manorhamilton and with the heavy cannon supposedly, slowing progress, the General ordered the captured cannon and artillery dumped in the river Bonet, Dromahair, from where they were later recovered by the British.
The significance of General Humbert disposing of invaluable artillery in the shallow Bonet and not disabling them, would certainly not have been missed on the British.
The ruins of the 16th century Creevelea Friary is in a graveyard across the river from Dromahair village, about a ten minute walk through a wooded area.

Of all the local people I spoke to the one concern that they have as Dromahair develops is that the village isn’t turned into one full of holiday homes.
From what I have gathered Dromahair has developed through the decades without ever getting too big and always improving while remaining true to the way it was.

The friary of Creevelea is in a graveyard about a ten minute walk through a wooded area from Dromahair village.
Observant friars from Donegal were invited in 1508 by Margaret O'Brien and her husband, Eoghan O'Rourke, to make this foundation, the last pre-Reformation Franciscan foundation in Ireland.
They then became involved in parish work in the area.

On inspection I found that the area of the site is very unspoilt and most new development is generally unobtrusive and has been absorbed into the landscape by the retention of existing vegetation, appropriate siting and design.
The area is not on the main route into Lough Gill from Dromahair but given its proximity to Lough Gill, I consider that its designation as an area of outstanding natural beauty is reasonable and that it is important that development in the area is restricted, well sited and designed.
It was originally proposed to construct the dwelling on the high ground at the rear of the site but revised proposals were submitted, which brought the dwelling forward some 35m and lowered the finished floor level by some 2m.

Easter weekend a group of players and supporters from St Brigids G.A.A club traveled to Dromahair Co Leitrim, the mission being to defend the Barney Mc Garrell memorial trophy.
Eighteen months ago St Patrick’s of Dromahair came to Russell Park in the first of these matches and on that occasion Brigids won the match fairly convincingly but the defeat did not deter the Dromahair lads from making the most of their weekend.
Sunday morning came, probably a bit too early for some as the previous night’s disco may have deprived some of them of a good nights rest, but at 1pm it was time for a light lunch before they started to focus on the game ahead.
