"DROMOD, a parish and post town in the barony of Iveragh, in the county of Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles S.E. of Cahersiveen, its post town, and 11 from Longford by the Sligo branch of the Midland Great Western railway.
It is situated near the embouchure of the river Inny into Ballinaskelligs Bay, with Lough Curran on the right.

  Dromod - Recumbent Stone Circle? - Co. Kerry
Dromod stands on the NW of the Cummeragh river valley and has a view over Loch Currane to the mountains beyond.
The circle has been extensively damaged, to the extent that its original type is not apparent on visual inspection.
It seems likely that Dromod was a multi-stone RSC, albeit with unusual grading.

May this year, when we finally decided to take a trip down to the museum, right in the heart of the Midlands, near the River Shannon, and literally next to the railway station at Dromod on the Dublin to Sligo line, it is an excellent location to have for a collection of this type.
The museum itself was primarily established as a place to exhibit rail heritage on the narrow gauge Cavan and Leitrim Line, and today the museum operates narrow gage locomotives on a portion of the original track, and is well worth a day out for the family on its own.
The aircraft was first acquired by the head of the group, George Harvey, who himself is a character who deserves to remembered for his influence on aviation heritage, as probably one of the first people to start recognising the importance of aviation heritage to Irish culture in the 1970’s.

There was great sadness in the Dromod region when it was learned that Michael (Mick) McGarry had been killed in a road accident close to his home at Dromodbeg outside the village.
McGarry, aged 58, from Mount Shannon, Dromod, was stuck by a car which was being driven by a Mayo footballer who was returning home having played Meath in Drumlish, Co. Longford.
News of his death came as a big shock to everyone in the locality where he was widely known and respected.
