In 1838 Dromore, in the Parish and Barony of Omagh, was described as a poor village in hilly and bleak country which stretched far around, yet the arable lands were for the most part good.
Dromore parish consists of over sixty townlands; roughly elliptical in shape, it is bounded on the north by Drumquin, on the south by Trillick, on the west by Ederney and on the east by Omagh and Fintona.
Dromore is classified as a village by the; NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 1,000 and 2,250 people).

TYRONE (County of), an inland county of the province of ULSTER, bounded on the east by the county of Armagh and Lough Neagh, on the north by the county of Londonderry, on the west by the counties of Donegal and Fermanagh, and on the south by those of Fermanagh and Monaghan.
During this period and for many years after, this territory of which Tyrone was the principal part and the usual seat of the ruling prince's residence, was untouched by the English; while, on the contrary, their borders were exposed to this predatory incursions.
The county constituency, as registered to the commencement of the year 1837, was, 322 freeholders of £50, 346 of £20, and 1805 of £10; 1 rent charger of £50, and 30 of £20; 50 leaseholders of £20 and 46 of £10; making a total of 2600 electors.

Basis: a tradition that Slaghtneill, near Swatragh, County Derry was the site of a battle between MacLochlainn and O Neill in which a Niall MacLochlainn was killed [3].
No Niall MacLochlainn is noted in the annalistic or poetic account of the battle and so the tradition is not particularly persuasive as being traditional of the battle the annalists tell us was fought at Cameirge.
Fortunately, the Ordnance Survey Memoirs note that the county boundary in this area was not fixed until quite late [11] and so the esker in Davagh can safely be identified as the esker of the tradition.
