At Greenside, to the west of the village of Droylsden, is a cemetery.
The manor of Clayton, with the appurtenances in Droylsden and Failsworth, was purchased by the brothers George and Humphrey Chetham in 1621.
Droylsden was recognized as a township by 1620.

The population of Droylsden in 1831 was 3,000, by 1861 it had risen to 8,000 and in 1900 it was 11,000.
Droylsden had two 'Clockhouses', so the workers could know when it was time to awake for their toil in the mills.
In 1953 Droylsden was the 4th largest in size and population of the 109 Urban Districts in the County of Lancashire.

Droylsden were originally formed in 1892 when landlord of the Butchers Arms pub, Joseph Cropper, invited the team to play behind his pub.
In the latter season he aided Droylsden to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in their first season in the competition.
A first season placing of 13th was Droylsden's best in the following six seasons before they were relegated in 1995/96 after they lost their first eight matches of the season (including conceding the fastest ever FA Cup hat-trick at Nantwich).

Gilly's goals saw Droylsden to the Manchester League Championship in 1931 and again in 1933, and in the latter season he aided Droylsden to the Third Qualifying Round in their first season in the FA Cup.
In 1976 Droylsden lost 5-3 in a First Round Replay at Grimsby Town, after a late home 'goal' was disallowed, but in 1978 Dave Taylor's goal at Rochdale sent the Bloods through to a Second Round tie at home to Altrincham, who ended the run with a 2-0 win.

A short section of the canal in Droylsden will be back in water within a few years, as there are plans to redevelop the area between Manchester Road and Fairfield Lock, which include the construction of a marina behind the present Library building.
The original proposals included buildings blocking the line of the canal beyond the marina but representations from the society have resulted in modifications, so that the line of the canal could now be restored as far as Manchester Road Bridge.
Tameside Council listened to the Hollinwood Canal Society and have changed the development proposals at Droylsden to include restoring the canal for approximately 175 metres from the junction.

There was much debate, and the whole fate of the tram extension hung on who would win the right to the land.
The school is now finished, and the fate of the Metrolink extension from Manchester to Ashton is still in the balance, basically Droylsden is now waiting to see if the government will change its mind about the decision to withdraw funding.
I always remember the Reyner trucks, having sat on a few in the Droylsden carnivals over the years (That's when there were lots of floats in the carnival).
