Oklahoma is bounded on the north by Kansas and Colorado, on the west and south by New Mexico and Texas (with part of the Texas border delineated by the Red River (Mississippi watershed), and on the east by Missouri and Arkansas.
Oklahoma receives much rain in the far eastern part of the state but is very dry in the panhandle and the west.

It is called the "Shawnee Runestone," because it was found within the city limits of Shawnee, in central Oklahoma, 1 mile from the North Canadian River, which is a tributary of the Arkansas River.
Research on the Oklahoma Runestones continued through the years, and one new opinion was published in 1987, when Paul Chapman of Georgia presented his theories on the Heavener, Poteau, and Shawnee Runestones.
