Dry Land Salinity is caused by the massive clearing of trees and understory plants, many parts of Australia are now or becoming affected.
The cause of the rising salt, is the rising water tables as the ground gets saturated and leaches salt water onto the surface of the land, when the land dry's out, the soil is white with salt.
We are alien in a dry land that once took care of itself, now its going to cost billions of dollars to put it all back and with a bit of luck the weeds might disappear when the tree cover is complete.

 Dry Farming: Chapter 1
It should be used with the distinct understanding that as far as the word "dry" is concerned it is a misnomer.
When the two words are hyphenated, however, a compound technical term--"dry-farming"--is secured which has a meaning of its own, such as we have just defined it to be; and "dry-farming," therefore, becomes an addition to the lexicon.
The methods whereby this direct draft of plants on the soil-moisture may be regulated are, naturally, of the utmost importance to the dry-farmer, and they constitute another vital problem of the science of dry-farming.

Dry Land Farming and Upland Bird
The advantages of dry weather farming continues as this same dry weather region allows for high chick survival rates during the critical hatch and brood months of May and June.
While the dry regions of Kansas do provide good brood conditions and late into winter food source the same dry weather can work against us through a lack of summer rains preventing the tall prairie grass from growing to the higher pheasant holding levels over larger areas.
However, in dry years not all is lost as another secondary effect of low rain fall years is the thinner grass allows for more quail habitat as the grass being thinner allows the smaller bird more range.

 The Dry Hydrant Concept
A dry hydrant consists of an arrangement of piping with one end in the water and the other end extending to dry land and available for connection to a pumper.
When a strategically placed dry hydrant with all-weather road access allows more water to be distributed in less time, and the water can be applied effectively on the fire, fire fighter effectiveness and safety is improved.
The expense of a dry hydrant installation depends on local practices and the length of pipe needed.

In my opinion, the areas of the body for which the skier will rely the most on pure strength are the abdominals, shoulders, latisumis dorsi and pectoralis muscles, bicep and tricep muscles in the arm, and quadricep in the leg.

 Worldandnation: When dry is wet
Those 10 banks were granted a total of 5,386 wetland credits for dry land - credits that can be sold as if they were the equivalent of saving 5,386 acres of pristine swamps and marshes.
The designs of Barberville and Lake Monroe were overseen by environmental consultant Stuart Bradow, who said the dry land is as essential as the wet to protecting the ecosystem.
In a twist on the rationale for the mitigation business, Hull said that because the law doesn't require permits to develop dry land, it is at a greater risk than the wetlands - so a wetland mitigation banker should get more credit for saving dry land than for helping wetlands.

There are two kinds of soil salinity: dryland salinity (occurring on land not subject to irrigation) and irrigated land salinity.
Many of our agricultural lands also contain vast reservoirs of salt, but normally these are held deep within the soil profile where they don't affect plant growth.
In Western Australia, the main source is believed to be the ocean – salt is carried inland by the prevailing winds and deposited on the land in rainfall and dust.
