The Dryopteridales are the Wood ferns and Sword ferns.
Their segregation as a discrete ((biology) taxonomic group containing one or more families) order is well-supported by modern (additional info and facts about genetic) genetic evidence.
All ferns in Dryopteridales have scaly (A horizontal plant stem with shoots above and roots below serving as a reproductive structure) rhizomes and (Supporting stalk or stemlike structure especially of a pistil or fern frond or supporting a mushroom cap) stipes.
