Bailey Hobson, one of DuPage County’s first settlers, was charged with the task of obtaining title from the appropriate government officials for a public square on which the courthouse would be erected.
Hiriam Cody, the wife of the county judge, saw the raiders and alerted her husband, who immediately ran to the Congregational Church and began ringing the bell.
DuPage County became the second county in the state to constitute its own judicial circuit.

DuPage County, Illinois, just west of Chicago, has a population approaching one-million people, and is one of the most knee-jerk reactionary areas of the Midwest, if not the US.
DuPage County has, in recent times, always voted overwhelmingly for whomever was the most conservative presidential candidate, and no statewide Democratic candidate has carried the county in memory.
The county seat, Wheaton, is all but ruled by Wheaton College, a fudamentalist evangelical protestant-run school, which was only recently defeated in its attempt to keep Wheaton "dry" by an electorate that was finally tired of being kept in the nineteenth century by this prudish, prohibitionist school.

In 1850, DuPage County was organized into nine townships, through the efforts of state legislator Warren Wheaton (1849–1851).
An 1857 attempt to relocate the county seat to Wheaton because of its more central location was defeated, but 10 years later the referendum succeeded in a close election.
DuPage County, by its opportune location, continued both to contribute to this development and to benefit from it.

"Naperville was selected as the county seat, and on the 17th day of June, 1839, a quit-claim deed was executed to the county commissioners, conveying all the title one claimant had (the undivided half) to the present public square.
In view of the possibility of their removal, the citizens of Naperville filed a bond in the clerk's office, in April, 1857, which obligates them to enlarge and improve the appearance of the court house during the present summer.

The main stem runs west from the community of Maywood in Cook County across eastern DuPage County to the western trailhead in Wheaton.
In Cook and DuPage counties (main stem, Elgin branch, Geneva spur), the trail is 10 feet wide and crushed limestone.
From Hillside the IPP passes into DuPage County and through the communities of Elmhurst, Villa Park, Lombard, and Glen Ellyn before ending at the path's western trailhead in Wheaton's Volunteer Park.

Warrenville Grove Forest Preserve on the West Branch of the DuPage River, where Julius Warren claimed land in Warrenville in 1833.
The West Branch of the DuPage River flows through the entire county, starting in Hanover Park in Cook County, and flowing south through Bartlett, Wheaton, Warrenville, Winfield, and Naperville.

 DuPage County Water System
Kenny Construction Company successfully completed the installation of 9.3 miles of 90" Precast Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) and 4.4 miles of 72" welded steel pipe for transmission of Lake Michigan water from the City of Chicago to DuPage County.
The system provides water to most of the county's residents.
The river crossings were excavated by open cut method after installing portable dams around one side of the river and de-watering the area.

This Memorial commemorates DuPage County residents killed in military conflicts at home and abroad beginning with the Black Hawk War in 1832 and continuing on to our most recent overseas engagements.
Also honored are the five branches of military service with special recognition of five DuPage County soldiers who received the Medal of Honor for selfless valor in battle.
The memorial was designed as a sundial to symbolize the temporal nature of war and illustrate the chronology of our nation’s conflicts.
