DuPage County River Sweep is a county-wide stream cleanup held during American Rivers Month, the first weekend in June.
Organized by the DuPage River Coalition, a volunteer project of The Conservation Foundation, more than 3,700 volunteers have removed nearly 125 tons of garbage from DuPage County streams since 1991.
The DuPage River Sweep is part of the Illinois Rivers Rescue Weekend.

Taking its name from the DuPage River, DuPage was established as a separate county from part of Cook County in 1839, with Naperville as the county seat.

Before 1800 a French trapper named DuPage built a small trading post four miles south of present-day Naperville at the confluence of the east and west branches of the river that was later named for him.
DuPage undoubtedly trapped beaver, very common in the area at that time, because their pelts, were especially valuable to the French traders.
The scenic bridge was built in 1976 by The Illinois Prairie Path, a not-for-profit corporation, and was donated to DuPage County for the benefit of all citizens of the county.

 West Branch of DuPage River Canoe Trip
There will be a narrow turn in the river at about 8 minutes that will be tricky to maneuver the canoe through.
After you've gone under the three large bridges the river will get very deep and clear and you will be able to some different water plants and also some clamshells on the river bottom.
This stretch of river is very shallow and is better canoed when river level is very high.

The purpose of establishing bikeways in DuPage is to improve non-motorized travel in the County, as well as provide recreational and health benefits that maintain the high quality of life we enjoy in DuPage.
DuPage County is also working to install a traffic signal at Gary Avenue and Lawrence that will allow the trail traffic to safely cross this roadway.
The West Branch DuPage River Trail is part of an intergovernmental effort led by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and includes municipalities, park districts, and other agencies like the DuPage County Division of Transportation.  The lead contact agency for the trail is the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.

 River Monitoring Project Data
The River Prairie Group of the Sierra Club has intiated a water monitoring project for several waterways in DuPage County, including Salt Creek and the east & west branches of the DuPage River.
The Des Plaines River watershed has been identified by the State as a watershed containing an impaired waterway (a waterway that does not meet water quality standards), and as such, the State must develop TMDL limits for this watershed.
That Salt Creek and the DuPage River are major contributories to the Des Plaines River lends additional significance to their water data.

We got on the west branch of the DuPage River at St Charles Rd in West Chicago at about 9:30 this morning.

 News in Warrenville, IL
The staging area is located along what is known as Reach SD of the river (Mack Road to River Oaks subdivision), but Reach SD cleanup work is not scheduled to begin until late 2006 or early 2007.
As shown on the figure, the Reach SD staging area originally was slated to be built closer to the river in a heavily forested area, which would have required the removal of a multitude of mature trees.
As part of a separate construction project, DuPage County and the Forest Preserve District are building a deep overwintering pool along the east side of the West Branch DuPage River upstream of Mack Road.
