The decade of the seventies saw phenomenal developments worldwide in distance education and while developments in Australia itself continued along the lines of the 'New England model', in particular Murdoch and Deakin, the characteristic of this new interest in distance education was the rise of the autonomous national institution dealing exclusively with external students.
If the dual mode system were to have received wide acceptance in the world or even in one country, we might expect to find at least one institution which offered all its courses to on- and off-campus students, thus deriving the maximum benefit for students of all types and teachers alike.
It would appear that distance education system now in existence are single mode or dual mode because of historical accident and external factors rather than as a result of educational debate.

 IDEA
The ethos of the Anglo-Russian School is to combine these two proven education systems of Russia and Great Britain, to allow Russian students in their last two years to attain the necessary qualifications to pursue their College years under their own choice (British or Russian University).
An added advantage of this dual system of education is that the Russian student can still live at home with their parents and also be subject to family discipline – we can not overestimate the stabilizing role of the family in the development of the child.
So the idea is born – Russian pupils have the opportunity to have a dual secondary education: the British college is responsible for the training of our teachers, control of the education and exams procedure and the Russian school has the realisation of the project and to provide the ‘home’ in Moscow.
