Dublin is evidently under siege; from the central watchtower two sentries sound the alarm, while on each flanking watchtower stands an archer, poised with a cross-bow.
The city logo is a much-simplified form of the coat of arms and has taken on many guises over the years; a C19 version, used on official stationery, is shown on p113 of Peter Pearson's 'The Heart of Dublin'.
Again, according to the city libraries' website: "The Dublin City Flag, which was adopted for use in 1885, presents a combination of national and civic emblems, with the harp of the Ireland in gold on a green background and the Three Castles of Dublin quartered in white on a blue background nearest the flagpole.

The Socialist (Feb 05) - Bin Tax: Dublin City Council imposes non-collection
So far the council have left untagged rubbish for a few days but then have tended to lift it, which shows that they think they can boost payment of the bin tax by causing non-payers limited hassle but that they are still nervous about causing a waste crisis.
Cork City Council's hardline stance of refusing to collect rubbish from bin charges non-payers and arrears-holders and from untagged bins resulted in widespread dumping on city streets and green areas.
Because of the refusal of the Council to collect the rubbish, communities should organise to put uncollected waste in the back of bin trucks to prevent a health hazard developing on their doorstep.

This pandering to the car lobby by the city fathers is no surprise to us, even when the European Commission directed participating cities to provide more space devoid of car traffic for this years event, and to make more of an effort publicising it.
The council should be investing heavily in providing roadspace for cyclists throughout the city and promoting it as a regular means of transport, not sticking it next to some street theatre and music as if it is some kind of entertainment and not a real alternative to car use.
For some reason, the city fathers have never been fans of it, usually buckling to pressure from the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, since most, if not all, of it's members drive to work this is hardly surprising.
