	DUC 2002 GUIDELINES
		DUC is part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) program, Translingual Information Detection, Extraction, and Summarization (TIDES), which specifically calls for major advances in summarization technology, both in English and from other languages to English (cross-language summarization).
		DUC 2001 data was available as training data for DUC 2002, once the short application had been submitted (see "Call for participation" below) and the required permission forms were signed.
		The test data for DUC 2002 was distributed at the end of March and results were due for evaluation mid-April.

		Duc Duc was the other principal entrance to the Quang Nam lowlands from the NVA-held highlands of Quang Nam and Quang Tin.
		On 1 August, the responsibility for the Que Son Valley was transferred from the 3d ARVN Division, heavily engaged in Thuong Duc and Duc Duc, to the 2d Division.

		The tomb of Tu Duc, the ‘poet Emperor’, is set in an elegant garden with a magnificent lake and pavilion complex.
		It is surprising that Duc Duc has a tomb at all, as his reign lasted a mere three days and he starved to death in prison.

		Tu Duc, Nguyen's 4th emperor, whose crass persecution of Christians in his realm provided France with a pretext to pursue its colonial encroachment in the region.
		The execution of a Spanish bishop in 1857 led to the French capture of Saigon in 1859, and three years later Tu Duc was forced to cede part of Cochin China; by 1867 France had annexed all of it.
		Tu Duc's later attempt to play the French against intervention by China succeeded only in the French occupation of Tonkin in 1882, but he died shortly before the final reduction of his country to a French protectorate in 1883.

	198th Light Infantry Brigade Association
		On October 22, the 198th LIght Infantry Brigade arrived in Vietnam from Ft. Hood, Texas and deployed to Duc Pho where it received combat training from the battle hardened soldiers of the 3rd Brigade, 4th Infantry.

		The interior decoration is simple: one bed and one table made of Thanh stone used to place altar and offerings during ceremonies.
