Duck Reach Power Station was the first publicly-owned hydro-electric plant in the Southern Hemisphere, and provided the Tasmanian city of Launceston with hydro-electric power from its construction in 1895 to its closure in 1955.

By 1934 the City of Launceston was also buying electricity from the Tasmanian Hydro-Electric Commission, in addition to operating the overworked Duck Reach plant.

 BBC - h2g2 - The UK's Ruddy Duck Problem
When the male ruddy duck struts his stuff, he raises two tufts of feathers on his head, cocks his tail up, inflates the air-sack in his neck and drums on it with his bill.
The reason this is a problem is that the white-headed duck is European, while the ruddy duck is an escaped American import to the UK that has spread to Europe.
Although it is feasible for the occasional duck to reach Europe naturally, it is believed that these populations either spread from the UK or originated from directly imported birds.

Duck Taxidermy Basics   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Look at the overall condition of the duck.  Is the duck missing feathers (pulled out by dog, carried by neck, etc)?  Are all of the wing feathers in tact?  Tail feathers missing (very common on late season divers…especially stiff tailed ducks)?  Try and pick a duck that looks good “in your hand”.
Continue skinning up to the base of the wings.  Once you reach the wing area cut the wing at the shoulder or where it meets the body.  It is better to cut a little too much meat than cut a hole in the skin at this point.
If you have a duck that will allow for the head to be “inverted” or turned inside out then continue to skin up to the bill.  Pay particularly close attention to the ears and the eyes.
