Dudley, part of the West Midlands conurbation, is located south of Wolverhampton and is the largest town in the Black Country.
Dudley has a history dating back to medieval times; a castle has stood in Dudley since the 8th century, the present castle dates from the 13th century, and provided the centre around which the town grew.
Dudley's borough boundaries were further expanded in 1974 to become a metropolitan borough, having taken in the boroughs of Halesowen and Stourbridge (both in Worcestershire).

It was formed in 1984 when residents of the Dudley Street area came together out of fear and anger to revive their neighborhood that was nearly devastated by arson, disinvestment, neglect and redlining practices, and protect it from outside speculators.
Dudley Street is a trilingual neighborhood of 5,455 African-American, Latin American, Cape Verdean, and White families.

Dudley is nationally known for his work in mobilizing local churches for community ministries, and is recognized for his long history of working for such causes as the peace movement, civil rights for the incarcerated and housing reform.
Dudley was born in Baltimore in 1932 and graduated from Cornell University in 1954 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and sociology.

21 William DUDLEY b Richmond, formerly Sheen, in Surrey, England; came to Guilford, CT, from the town of Guilford, thirty miles southeast from London, in the county of Surrey.
They emigrated to America and settled in Guilford, CT in 1639, with Rev. Henry Whitfield, as a part of the Eaton and Hopkins expedition to CT. When he arrived with his young wife their home was on what is now Fair Street.
Dudley was a representative in the General Court for Guilford.
