Dudley Council has given the public the opportunity to put their thoughts across as to the redevelopment of Castle Hill that includes the Castle and Dudley Zoo.
The plans have always included the zoo, but whereas the initial reports suggested the zoo was to scale-down its animal collection, to only exhibit smaller animals, recent proposals by the developers, St. Modwen, suggest that the zoo is to double in size and be incorporated into a "Disney-standard attraction".
Zoos do not provide wild animals with appropriate living conditions and this would be an opportunity for Dudley to become an example to all other city zoos by closing its collection and encouraging people to support the conservation of wild animals in their natural habitat.
